Linocut printing workshop series - WEEK ONE

with Natasha Scott of Spotticlogg

Natasha Scott, an experienced artist from the boutique Spotti Clogg Art Studio located in Mount Cotton, is pleased to be offering an exciting series of six workshops commencing on the 3rd

These workshops are suitable for all levels of creative skills. Workshop groups are small and the curriculum is broken into simple blocks, allowing us to complete a project every week. This workshop is perfect for anyone wanting to learn to express themselves creatively, and many of the techniques and theory transfer to other art forms.

All new-comers are welcome.

WEEK ONE

We will learn a little about the history of printmaking, particularly Linocut, and Natasha will teach participants a simple transfer technique using your mobile phone photographs. We will also discuss MARK MAKING - and which tools to use for which types of marks, and which marks will assist you in achieving a suitable outcome for your project.

THIS WEEK WE WILL COMPLETE A SIMPLE IMAGE/PATTERN GREETING CARD

- allowing you to create your very own bespoke card to celebrate that special occasion or person.

*Spare cards / Ezicarve / cutting tools will be available for purchase

WEEK TWO

Starting on:

Sun 10th March

11am - 4pm

$120 pp/ per class

Linocut printing workshop series - WEEK TWO

with Natasha Scott of Spotticlogg

We will recap the transfer technique from week one, the importance of our mark making, and we will expand our mark making and cutting technique by completing a more challenging WALL IMAGE.

Having completed week one, you will have had time to plan for this week and to prepare a suitable image (that you will feel confident in cutting). One-on-one guidance will be provided to help each participant achieve their best possible result; walking you through your planning,

transfer, and the various cutting stages, and finishing with Natasha assisting you to print your image - while teaching you how to roll the ink, ink the block, and print onto paper by hand.

*Spare Silkcut lino blocks / paper will be available for purchase

WEEK THREE

Starting on:

Sun 17th March

11am - 4pm

$120 pp/ per class

Linocut printing workshop series - WEEK THREE

with Natasha Scott of Spotticlogg

Building on your skills from weeks one and two, this week we will be completing a TEA TOWEL or TOTE BAG with a repeating pattern.

Natasha will teach you the theory to plan and execute your own repeating pattern, that you will feel confident in drawing up and carving. This week we will work on the same material as week one, but we will be using Fabric Ink instead - allowing us to make our item washable, and giving us a wide choice in colours. Natasha will also teach you the relevant “REGISTRATION” tip, tricks, and techniques - allowing you to produce your own bespoke item. (These make lovely gifts).

* Spare tea towels / totes / ink / rollers will be available for purchase

WEEK FOUR

Starting on:

Sun 17th March

11am - 4pm

$120 pp/ per class

Linocut printing workshop series - WEEK FOUR

with Natasha Scott of Spotticlogg

This week we delve into exciting world of COLOUR linocut. We will be carving a smaller 10cmx10cm size image - but we will have the option of FOUR COLOURS (three colours and black). Natasha will assist you in planning your image, and will discuss the theory of multiple linocut printing. She will also assist you in the planning and execution of your image - NOTE - four 10cmx10cm blocks will have to be cut and inked and printed, so choosing a suitable image will be important.

We will again be using our registration skills learnt in week three, and our inking and printing skills from week two. Whilst the image transfer technique was taught in week one, it can be refreshed for “late comers”. As always - Natasha will be giving all participants plenty of individual guidance and assistance.

* Spare 10x10cm lino block will be available for purchase

WEEK FIVE

Starting on:

Sun 24th March

11am - 4pm

$120 pp/ per class

Linocut printing workshop series - WEEK FIVE

with Natasha Scott of Spotticlogg

This week we will continue our adventure into COLOUR PRINTMAKING by using ONE 10x10cm silk cut lino or 8x8cm Ezicarve block to carve a multicolour image to print on either a CARD or a WALL IMAGE (or both). Using our transfer techniques from week one, multicolour experience from last week, and registration techniques learnt to date; we will use a single block and repeatedly carve into it, and print the “layers” of colour. This is a fantastic technique to use in creating limited edition colour images that will be bespoke gifts or decor for your friends / family / home. You will get to use all the skills that you have learnt so far, to challenge yourself creatively, and truly enjoy your printmaking. As per previous weeks, Natasha will assisting each student to achieve their best result - providing advice, assistance and encouragement every step of the way.

* Spare silk cut and Ezicarve blocks will be available for purchase

WEEK SIX

Participants will have the opportunity to choose two options : TEA TOWEL / TOTE BAG/ CUSHION COVER / CARD / WALL IMAGE to complete in any way they see fit, using the new inking techniques, repeat pattern, registration, multicolour blocks from weeks past.

This culmination in our skills building will allow you to let your creativity run free.
