Minimalist design paired with high functionality connects LEUCHTTURM1917 to the principles and ideas of the Bauhaus. This is also what inspired us to design the Drehgriffel No. 1 Bauhaus Edition – which is a tribute to two artists whose names are inseparable with Bauhaus: Wassily Kandinsky and Piet Mondrian.
With each use, a discreet dot on the twistable head reminds us of Kandinsky’s motivating motto: “Everything starts from a dot.” The colour scheme of this Drehgriffel edition is inspired by the highly contrasting pictorial compositions of Piet Mondrian, whose Theory of New Design was published in 1925 as a separate volume of the Bauhaus book series.
The tip and twist top of the Drehgriffel No. 1 share a colour that contrasts with the colour scheme of the hexagonal pen shaft, which separates them.
This Drehgriffel edition follows our 2019 Red Dot Design Award-winning special edition notebook for the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Bauhaus. With it, we embrace the Bauhaus movement and its concept of form and colour.
The founding and golden age of the Bauhaus School is also reflected by the original Drehgriffel, which was created in the 1920s.
The Drehgriffel Nr. 1 Bauhaus Edition contains a ballpoint refill with royal blue ink. Replacement or exchange refills are available in royal blue or black
